This add-on provides a direct workflow for importing and exporting Autodesk Maya (.mb and .ma) files directly within the Blender interface. It operates by utilizing a local Maya installation's Python interpreter in the background, allowing users to transfer files without needing to open Maya manually.
The tool supports the transfer of 3D geometry with UV maps, keyframe animations, rigged character assets with skeletons and skinning data, and basic camera and lighting setups. Materials are transferred via an intermediate FBX conversion, which handles standard setups but may require manual adjustments for complex shader networks.
The add-on is currently compatible only with Windows operating systems. It requires configuring the file path to a local installation of Autodesk Maya 2018 or newer.
