Mesh Onion Skins is an animation utility that allows you to see multiple frames of an object or character simultaneously. By visualizing the sequence of movement in the viewport, animators can make more accurate decisions regarding timing and posing based on the preceding and following frames.
The tool operates using two distinct draw modes. The GPU mode leverages Blender's drawing API for fast viewport performance with minimal overhead during animation playback and analysis. The Mesh mode generates physical duplicate objects for each frame within a specified range, organizing them into a dedicated collection. Because these skins act as real geometry, they can be modified or rendered in EEVEE and Cycles. The add-on also features automatic updates when adding or removing keyframes, settings presets, and support for Sculpt mode workflows when paired with the Keymesh add-on.
