Face Layers allows users to organize complex meshes by assigning groups of faces to custom layers. This system provides a centralized interface to select, hide, and lock specific sections of a model, streamlining workflows like modeling, texturing, and weight painting. Users can shift layer order, rename groups, and manage multiple loose parts of a mesh simultaneously.
The tool is divided into three primary sections. The Face Layers panel handles the core grouping and material assignments. The Mesh Data panel functions as a spreadsheet, listing each layer alongside its face, triangle, and ngon counts, allowing users to select geometry directly from the list. The Mesh Errors section provides quick diagnostics to identify and resolve topology issues.
Additional features support material and color workflows. Users can assign existing materials to layers, generate multiple materials for ID maps, and randomize material colors across face layers. A custom Palettes Panel allows users to paste hex codes directly from the clipboard. All tools and layer commands can be accessed through a customizable pie menu mapped to a default keyboard shortcut.
