FreeIK is a rigging and animation add-on that converts basic armatures into functional, animation-ready setups. It provides a specialized posing workflow by allowing users to change bone hierarchies on the fly, pin specific bones, and split the rig into separate parts during movement.
The tool accommodates non-standard skeletal structures, including skeletons that contain loops. In addition to armature bones, the system allows standard scene objects to be animated using the same posing logic. Most of the add-on's posing and rigging features are accessible directly through a dedicated pie menu.
