Bolt Nut Sculpture

This Geometry Nodes modifier gives any 3D model the appearance of a sculpture constructed entirely from metal nuts. It works by converting the mesh surface into a honeycomb-like grid and instancing a bolt nut onto each face, scaling them relative to the underlying face area. For optimal results, the modifier requires meshes with even topology, such as approximately square quads or equilateral triangles.

The modifier panel includes several parameters to customize the final look. Users can tweak the overall size of the nuts, toggle alignment settings to better match the underlying hexagons, and apply subdivisions. Additional controls allow for introducing surface noise, randomly deleting faces to create structural gaps, and using vertex groups to precisely remove sections of the geometry. A built-in rustiness attribute is also included for basic material texturing.
